Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:1–13
Scripture Summary:
God sends the prophet Samuel to anoint a new king from among Jesse’s sons. While others look at outward appearance, God reminds Samuel that the Lord sees differently; God looks at the heart. The unlikely shepherd boy David is chosen.
Devotional:
Our world often measures people by appearance, status, or success. God sees differently. God sees the quiet faith, the humble heart, the unseen acts of kindness. David was the last person anyone expected to be chosen, yet God saw something deeper. Lent invites us to remember that God sees us not as the world sees us, but as beloved and called.
Prayer:
God who sees the heart, help me look beyond appearances and recognize the goodness you have placed within others. Amen.
