Scripture: Romans 5:1–5
Scripture Summary
Paul says that since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through Jesus Christ. He speaks of suffering producing endurance, character, and hope, and says that hope does not disappoint because God’s love has been poured into our hearts.
Devotion
This passage does not pretend suffering is easy. It simply tells the truth: suffering is real, but it is not empty.
Some of us know that deeply. We have carried grief, disappointment, uncertainty, and burdens we never asked to bear. And still, somehow, God has kept us.
Paul reminds us that hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is what grows when God’s love keeps meeting us in the middle of real life. Not after the struggle, but in it.
That kind of hope does not disappoint because it is grounded in God’s love, not in changing circumstances.
Prayer
God of hope, pour your love into my heart again and help me trust that you are still at work, even in hard places. Amen.
